About Ricki
Ricki Walters is the author of the middle grade fantasy novel, The Enchanted, and the short stories The Morality Play published by Aria Kalsan, and The Plague Doctor, published by Learning through History.
For fifteen years, Ricki has taught English/Writing as an adjunct faculty member at Riverland Community College and North Iowa Area Community College, while she worked during the day as a Title IX Investigator, Trainer, and Diversity Officer for four colleges in southern Minnesota. In 2013, she was part of a team that won the MnSCU Equity and Diversity Relationship Award for their project: Preparing Future Teachers for Cultural Competence and Culturally Responsive Teaching.
Walters loves fairy tales, Celtic mythology, and rewriting old legends into modern fantasy stories for children--and adults who enjoy fantasy adventures based on myth. She began crafting fairy stories for her daughters as they hiked tree lined paths in Minnesota State Parks. The woods and trails of Springbrook Nature Center, Itasca State Park, Three Rivers Park System, and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area ended up on the page as part of the fairy realm in The Enchanted.
Ricki lives in Austin, Minnesota, with her very high energy Blue Heeler/Shepherd mix, Tina. In her spare time, Walters enjoys Tai Chi, walking (especially on wooded trails), reading fantasy, writing, watching movies, and spending time with her family and friends.
